Post-Listing Update: This YB1 did not meet reserve with 30 bids up to $15,988.

Let’s go back in time to the birth of Bimota as a motorcycle manufacturer – did you know they actually started making heating systems? Massimo Tamburini wrecked at Misano in 1972 on his Honda 750 race bike, and the experience led him to believe that he could design a frame that was better suited to handle the power. Fast forward a few months and just 10 kits (called the HB1) were produced, but the impending demand led to the company you know today.

Bimota YB1 - Right Side No Fairing

Bimota’s first production bike was the KB1, released in 1978, which means this rare YB1 was produced back when Bimota was still just selling kits that you’d have to provide the engine for. Just 12 YB1s were built between 1974 and 1975, and they’d accept the 250 or 350 engines from Yamaha’s TZ race bikes.

This example is VIN: 12, which would make it the last one ever built. It was shown off in a parade lap in 2012 in Italy and has been in a collection since. It’ll be interesting to see where the bidding ends up on this! Find this YB1 for sale in Alcheda, Italy with bidding up to $610 and the reserve not yet met
