A rare bike even in Germany, the NSU 125 ZDB was typically used by the upper middle class as a commuter. Here’s an example that’s been given a second lease on life – check out the pre-restoration photo below!

Sales of this bike were on and off (due to the war) until about 1951, but this example is from one of the first years of production. The basic summary? 125cc, 5 horsepower, and a 3 speed transmission led to a top speed of about 45 miles per hour. This specific example was apparently registered at one point by the Wehrmacht, then abandoned on the battlefield and taken by the Romanian Army. It found its way into civilian life where it was acquired by the family of the seller. It sat in a barn from 1978 to 2007 – the seller began restoration earlier this year, and took over 1,200 hours to get to what you see above from this starting point:
