Post Listing Update: This German combo did not meet reserve despite 55 bids up to $18,700.

Here’s a combination of two German-made black beauties – a BMW R50/2 paired with a Steib TR500 sidecar.

The TR500 was built specifically to be attached to bigger bikes like the offerings from Zundapp and BMW. It’s not as pretty as the bullet-shaped “S” models, but it was comfortable and rugged, which is why it was also used in service applications for local governments. If you want to get lost in a German parts list for this hack, check out the Zundapp Fool.

This bike (VIN: 630085) was apparently restored many years ago and it is said to run well. If you think a 500cc motor is too small to lug around the Steib, you can feel better because this bike has lower gearing specifically for sidecar duty and the cylinders from a R60. It’s also got a Hoske gas tank, Bates-type windshield and saddlebags, solo seats, original BMW tool kit, a wide rear rim, and more. While the speedometer works, the odometer does not and true mileage unknown. The seller notes that the “transmission [is] a little noisy”, so you’re going to want to investigate that before placing a bid. Be the star of your next parade!
