When it was introduced by BSA in 1966, it was the fastest standard motorcycle that Motor Cycle magazine had ever tested with a top speed of 123 miles per hour. The next year, the Spitfire was ridden by the Isle of Man TT marshals when they needed to get around the course. Weirdly, the first generation of the Spitfire was dubbed the Mark 2, and that’s what we’ve got here today.

In the UK, the Spitfire was a gentleman’s express of a sports tourer with a four gallon tank (a five gallon tank was optional), large seat, and more. In the US, the bike got a 2 gallon tank. For more on the Spitfire, check out this Retrospective from Rider magazine.

This bike (VIN: A65S7540) has been with the seller since 1999 and he’s got plenty of spares, including the original US 2 gallon tank which was painted British Racing Green to match the side covers, the original air cleaners, and the chain guard. He does not have the original Amal GP carbs or a center stand. What he does have is Amal 930s, a 190mm Gold Star front brake set up by Vintage Brake, rebuilt Dunlop rims, new DID chain, UK handlebars, a 5 gallon aluminum tank by T.A. Baker, Smiths gauges restored by Foreign Speedo, Doherty levers, Boyer/Bransden electronic ignition, and more. The seller says that he just got a “new toy” and it’s time for this beautiful British bike to get a new owner.
