Introduced with the 250 in 1962 the Ducati Scrambler line had an incredible run of popularity, first in North America and after introduction to Europe in 1968 it was very popular there, too. Originally derived from a street machine the Scrambler line evolved into a genuine player on the dirt racing circuit in the US and in Europe. The Scrambler was discontinued in 1974 but the line was resurrected in 2015. If you haven’t seen the news for 2017 you need to watch the product premiere video here. Scramblers are now considered a separate line at Ducati and there are exciting changes coming!

The 1966 Ducati Scrambler 250 used a 249.2 CC (15.2 CID) air cooled four stroke single cylinder gear driven overhead cam desmo head motor that produced 18 HP. A five speed transmission gave it a wide range of speeds and the relatively light 240 LBS produced a serviceable dirt machine. Derived originally from the Diana the frame was slightly altered but considered good for the day. With just over 5 inches of ground clearance it wasn’t a purpose built dirt bike by any means.
