1968 Triumph TR6C

In England, Off-Road by Tom WackerLeave a Comment

The Triumph TR6 was introduced as a 1956 model 650 CC twin aimed squarely at the US market. Bud Ekins said he basically taught Steve McQueen to ride the fire roads of So Cal on a TR6, and there is no doubt that McQueen loved the bike. He owned several over the years.

By 1968 the TR6 was unit construction (motor and transmission in the same case) with 12 volt electrics, larger (Bonneville) exhaust valves and higher compression. New for 1968 was the very good twin leading shoe brake system and Amal Concentric Carb. There were two variants in ‘68, the TR6R (roadster) and the TR6C (competition). The C was built at the request of the US distributor for the desert riders.

The 1968 TR6 C used a 649 CC four stroke air cooled overhead valve parallel twin motor that made 45 HP with a 4 speed transmission and was good for a top speed of 100 MPH. Suspension, brakes and frame were considered first rate for the time.

This particular 1968 Triumph TR6 C (VIN # DU74568) is in Livonia, Michigan and is listed as ‘freshly rebuilt and repainted’. It’s not restored by any means, but the seller says there is limited mileage since the rebuild. The bike is currently priced at $1,025 with reserve not met
