Post-Sale Update: This Husqvarna 400 Cross was removed from eBay.  Unfortunately we do not know what the final selling price was.

A couple of days ago, one of our favorite sites – RideApart – posted an article featuring 6 dirt bikes that changed the industry. We figured we’d help you find some of these instant classics. Let’s start with one of the most famous of all time – the Husqvarna 400 Cross.

Husqvarna 400 Cross - Front Right

The Husqvarna 400 Cross is most famous due to Steve McQueen’s movie On Any Sunday, with a classic scene of this bike flying across a deserted beach. But it wasn’t just a pretty face destined for the silver screen – this bike was a bigger, more powerful version of the 250 Cross, already a world championship winning bike. The 400 kept tradition going with a win in the 1971 Baja 1000. But race successes can only do so much – outside of the world of competition, the company affectionately known as Husky didn’t enjoy much name recognition. On Any Sunday changed that almost overnight, and it was credited by dealers as causing a huge sales boom.

Husqvarna 400 Cross - Left Rear

This specific Husqvarna 400 Cross looks just lovely, especially with the yellow number plates ready to go. It has a low exhaust instead of the scrambler pipe, and the front fender is missing the optional extension. We’ll be curious to see what this goes for. Though not truly a reflection on this auction, we should point out that according to Hemmings, McQueen’s personal ’71 400 Cross didn’t reach reserve in June of this year, even though bidding topped $50,000.
