1973 Alouette AX125

In America, Off-Road by Abhi2 Comments

2-14 Update: I almost didn’t feature these bikes originally because the seller on Craigslist didn’t list an asking price. But now the package deal is available with bidding up $760 and the reserve not yet met

Normally when you think of motorcycle makers based out of Canada, the first thing that comes to mind is Can-Am. But some of you may remember Alouette, a Canadian snowmobile manufacturer that expanded into dirt bikes so that their dealers would have vehicles to sell and service during the summer. The AX125 was introduced in 1973, but sales were abysmal (only about 700 total) and Alouette, which had been purchased by Coleco, was shut down in 1975. For more on Alouette and their story, check out this write-up from Classic Jap Cycles.

Though just 700 were built, this seller has a set of 3 that he/she is willing to make a package deal on. Alouette used Sachs 125cc “B” engine paired with a six-speed transmission – the engine wasn’t particularly good. I suspect that these bikes will be going to one of the few people out there dedicated to keeping Alouette alive. Find this set of Alouette’s here on Craigslist in Oxford, Maine – the seller is willing to do a package deal.
