1973 DKW Boondocker

Something a little different for Xmas? I always get a little excited when I run across a bike I was not aware of, or at least have never seen before. Here is one example, a 1973 DKW Boondocker.

The DKW is a 125cc 2-stroke, with 6 speeds, putting out a claimed 24HP. In these pictures, it looks sort of like a mini-bike, but it has 21″ front and 18″ rear wheels, and specs claim 210 pounds. Other than the specs, there is precious little info about these bikes available. Sachs made a 125 Boondocker from 1968-1971, which was similar, but had an Earles front suspension. I suspect this was the follow-on DKW version after Sachs started selling their bikes under the DKW name late in 1971.

This bike has been totally restored, complete with powder coated frame and engine rebuild. Some pieces are non-original, like Preston Petty fenders, and 12V conversion, but hey, if it makes it run better, I wouldn’t complain.

Looks like he made his own plastic side panels, too. I suspect original body parts for these would fall under that category of “unobtanium” here in the US.

Anyway, this would be a cool bike for inspecting your acreage, or just putt-putting around the local woods. It’s available here on Craigslist in Lawrenceville (just NE of Atlanta), Georgia for $3,100.
