Post Listing Update: This Gold Wing did not get any interest at the asking price of $15,000.

Typically, manufacturers wait to produce limited editions until a model has been successful for a few years. But in just the second year of Gold Wing production, Honda spiffed the American market with a birthday present – the LTD edition commemorated America’s 200th anniversary of independence. I’ve seen varying production numbers between 2,000 and 3,600 in the past but I haven’t been able to confirm them. For what it’s worth, this seller says that 2,000 were built for the US and another 1,600 were sold in other markets. It might seem weird to sell a bike celebrating America in other countries but there wasn’t actually anything on the LTD that specifically mentioned America.

Instead, the changes included “Custom Candy Brown” paint with gold pinstripes, gold wheels, chrome plated nuts and bolts, higher handlebars, chrome plated radiator, thicker seat, a special tool kit (chrome plated tools and a leather pouch), and a leather key pouch with a key blade that was chrome plated. Of course, this was all in addition to the standard 80 horsepower flat-4 motor that was good for 125 miles per hour, triple disc brakes, and 5 gallon fuel tank. MSRP for the standard bike was $2,960, but you’d have to dole out $3,295 to get yourself the LTD>

This example (VIN: GL1-2036011) has 12,498 miles on the odometer but from most angles it sure doesn’t look like it has that many. It spent most of its time in a collection and with the exception of some grime on the underside of the rear fender I’m frankly astonished about the cosmetic condition. The seller includes some detail shots of areas like the wheel spokes and they look fantastic. Per the listing, everything works as it should and it comes with the leather owners manual and original fancy tool kit. The only LTD-specific item missing is said to be the leather key fob. Mechanically, all the fluids were recently changed and last year the bike got new tires and belts. This is a higher asking price than I usually see for this limited edition Gold Wing, but I also cannot remember seeing a nicer one. Plus, there’s a “Make Offer” button, so click that and do your worst!
