2002 MZ Baghira Black Panther

In Dual-Sport, Germany by AbhiLeave a Comment

Post Listing Update: This Black Panther did not meet reserve despite 18 bids up to $1,528 on eBay.

MZ decided to expand their product line with the introduction of the MZ Baghira, a dual sport with excellent components – bodywork from Acerbis, motor from Yamaha, and suspension from WP. It all combined to make a rare and very satisfying dual purpose motorcycle.

MZ contracted with Yamaha to supply the engine for this bike – they used the 660cc thumper from the XT660. Power was impressive, with 50 horsepower and 42 pound-feet of torque. Compare that to the modern day Kawasaki KLR 650, which still only puts out about 40 (admittedly, it’s one of the weakest of the current 650 crop of dual sports). We always thought these were odd looking bikes, but they were ahead of the time, and are definitely rare. Finding replacement bodywork can be a chore, but thanks to the Yammy engine, mechanical maintenance is much easier than the bike’s rarity would suggest. MZ Baghira Black Panther - Cockpit

This specific Baghira is one of the Black Panther models, which was really just a cosmetic package with the fairings all in black. This package includes 17″ Brent aluminum wheels, a WP rear shock, and an aftermarket exhaust.
