AHRMA Racer – 1979 Yamaha SR500

For the ‘all new’ SR400, Yamaha wants $5,900 of your (possibly) hard-earned dollars. Throw an extra $600 in the pot to get something much better – this beautiful SR500 vintage racer!

Highlights include a bump in displacement to 540cc, a Megacycle cam, ported head, Mikuni VM38 carb, lightened crank, custom exhaust, Ohlins steering damper, Excel rims, Gazi shocks and the forks from a ZX600. There’s also Brembo brakes, ProTaper bars, Tarozzi rearsets, and more. I’d keep writing things down but I want to leave some surprise for the listing – still, you should get the idea that this is a well spec’d, classic (and have I mentioned beautiful already?) motorcycle.

The seller built this bike 2 years ago and it has since seen only 3 AHRMA weekends and one track day. It puts down 39 horsepower on a dyno and is wired for lights if you’d like to go a little crazy on the street. Its last outing was in Road America where it won its class (Superbike LW) but the seller doesn’t have the time to race it anymore. I sure hope you do!
