Comet Powered – 1951 Vincent Black Shadow

Post Sale Update: This semi-Black Shadow sold for $34,100 after 7 bids on eBay.

This is a tough one. We’ve got a Vincent Black Shadow chassis but it’s powered by a Vincent Comet engine. Does that make this half a Black Shadow? What would you do – ride it as is or try to find a more fitting engine for the legendary frame?

A Comet engine is good for 28 horsepower, so you could still have some fun with this bike. The seller says the frame and swingarm are matching numbers (RC7853B), though obviously the engine is not. It’s got a clear California title and the seller wants the new owner to perform a heart transplant with a real Black Shadow engine, but that’s easier said than done from a financial standpoint.

Find this not-a-Black Shadow for sale in Palm Desert, California with bidding up to $30,255 and the reserve not yet met or a BIN of $42,000 (I think the seller wants another $15,000 for the engine and transmission, though)
