Post-Sale Update: After 17 bids on eBay, this Ducati 450 R/T Desmo sold for $4,280.

Not many people know it, but Ducati had a one-year, one-time-only foray into the world of motocross. The Ducati 450 R/T Desmo was created and imported after its American importer convinced them to bring a big thumper dirt racer to the states.

The R/T stood for Road/Trail, and the bright yellow was your only option. General consensus was the the engine was solid (38 horsepower), but its 300 pound weight didn’t help handling. It sold poorly – varying estimates peg the total number of imports between less than a hundred and a few hundred. Want to learn a LOT more? Check out this comprehensive write-up from PulpMX.

This specific Ducati 450 R/T Desmo is missing the tank decals, and I suspect the rare front fender is not original – though the seller claims otherwise. The seller also states that the bike is cosmetically good and mechanically excellent. In addition, he’ll throw in a period accessory light kit as a bonus.
