When Yamaha introduced the DT line in 1968 it was an absolute winner. Probably the first Japanese crossover bike aimed strictly at the dirt, the 1968 DT sold out before the model year was ended. By ‘72 Yamaha switched to reed valve induction which brought up the HP considerably. Yamaha also produced a motocross (MX) and enduro specific models in ‘72.

The 1972 DT250 used a 246 CC (15 CID) single cylinder two stroke motor with a Mikuni carb that put out an impressive 23 HP. 5 speed transmission, really good suspension and ground clearance with the weight well under 250 LBS made the DT250 very potent. The MX came with the Yamaha Autolube system, but all racers removed it for a further weight savings.

This particular DT250F (VIN# DT1F-108025) is in La Quinta, CA and is listed as an easy restoration. That may be entirely in the eye of the beholder particularly because the pictures are so bad, but it seems to be mostly complete and said to be running. It’s a real solid elder crossover bike and is currently at $202.50 with no reserve
