Here’s a Suzuki racer with an impressive history. This bike was prepped by Yoshimura per the request of Heron Suzuki, the UK importer. In 1979, Barry Sheene raced this at Oulton Park, where he finished second.

According to the seller, Yoshimura gave this bike upgraded cams, bigger valves, high comp pistons, a stronger clutch, and a close ratio transmission as part of the prep. Power output was apparently ‘around 114 bhp’. Other changes included a shorter swing arm and fork yokes from a RG500. Sheene’s 2nd place finish would be the best result for this ex-factory racer in 1979 – it then bounced around between private owners until it was put on display in the Lakeland Motor Museum in 2002. 10 years later it sold at the Bonhams Stafford auction for $35,652. The new owner recently recommissioned it and says all it needs to race again will be new tires.
