Post Sale Update: This trike sold for the opening bid of $4,500.

When Kawasaki introduced the KX500 motocrosser in 1983, Dirt Bike magazine called it “unrideable” and “violent.” The owner of this bike apparently never read that article, because he’s decided to take it to another level of lunacy by adding a wheel. Well, that’s not fair, he does say “It isn’t for inexperienced rider, also it is very dangerous. So if you are unfamiliar with trikes and how they ride, please don’t waste my time or your life.

The stock KX500 engine put out 55 horsepower, and Kawi didn’t make any changes to the model line between 1994-2004. This bike (VIN: JKAKXVE12SA011141) utilizes the same frame and suspension from the original bike (seems like you’d want to modify the suspension for the extra weight in the back, no?). It now utilizes a Honda 250R thumb throttle and front master cylinder. The front wheel is from a Honda 350X three wheeler, though it keeps the front caliper and rotor from the KX500. It has a rear end from a Yamaha Tri-Z 250 ATC. The cosmetics aren’t too bad but they’re a bit of a mishmash with parts from other Japanese manufacturers. The motor has been rebuilt with a .020 bore and a Wiseco piston. The crank was rebuilt and it has new main bearings and seals. A Dynoport pipe and FMF Power Core silencer round out the modifications to the power delivery system.

How the bike started out:
