Harley Trunk – 1939 GouldCar

In 3 Wheels, America, Custom by AbhiLeave a Comment

Post Listing Update: This GouldCar did not meet reserve with 14 bids up to $1,025.

James Goulding founded the Goulding Sidecar Manufacturing Company in Australia but he debuted his offerings in the US in the year 1920 with a 12,000-mile journey around America with one of his sidecars attached to a 1917 Harley-Davidson Model J. He made a lot of contacts during the trip and decided to move his business to the US in the mid 20’s. Goulding offered several models – the most famous of which in America was the Rocket, but he also created an interesting piece of bodywork called the GouldCar. It was designed to bolt onto a Harley-Davidson rigid frame and basically give you a truck bed in the process.

Very few of these were built, and some came with a front portion to enclose the rider. Per the seller, the running gear is from a Studebaker and it features a transfer case from a Ford Model A which permits the conversion of the chain drive from the Harley to a shaft. ‘All you have to do is remove your rear wheel and fender and then you can install the box assembly.’ For more on the Goulding story, check out this site dedicated to the man and his creations.

Though the photos also show a bike, this listing is just for the GouldCar. Find it for sale in Daytona Beach, Florida with bidding up to $202.50 and the reserve not yet met
