Heavily Customized – 2014 Honda Grom

In Custom, Japan, Small Displacement by Tim HuberLeave a Comment

It’s not often that you see small displacement bikes like the Honda Grom undergo such extreme and extensive customization but that’s exactly what this seller has done. The vast majority of the mods on this custom Grom are cosmetic but a handful of components have been thrown into the mix to improve the little guy’s performance as well. While I imagine most people will have a “love it or hate it” view on this one-off machine, but I don’t think anyone will contest how unique this little Honda is.

To get to where this bike is today extensive fabrication work was needed, the builder also managed to combine multiple custom parts such as the bike’s front end which is made up of a custom LED headlight houses in a custom front cowl. The bike’s custom tail section feeds into the tank which has been given a custom tank cover (ordered from Thailand), together they seriously alter the appearance of this small-displacement custom. To do this a custom subframe had to be added, interestingly said subframe came off a pocket bike and the rims are not only painted (maybe powder coated?), but they’re aftermarket as well. The bellypan is another great touch too, rounding out all the custom Petex bodywork, all of which has been painted “Blueberry” with a pearl-finish.

Now, getting to some of the non-cosmetic upgrades; this Grom has full Öhlins suspension front and back, Brocks exhaust, Chimera intake, digital engine temp gauge and power commander. I’d imagine this Grom would easily outperform its stock brethren. This things also covered in bells and whistles. It sports CRG bar-end mirror(s?), custom Composimo billet rearsets and “dress up engine parts”, carbon fiber engine covers, Driven grips, gold ASV shorty-levers, gold DID chain, and LED taillight w/ integrated signals.

As the seller points out, “the magenta isn’t for everyone” and I think that’s incredibly accurate, however a new set of paint could seriously change the look of this bike. While this Grom definitely isn’t for me personally, I admire the owner having a vision, using quality parts, not cutting corners and being incredibly resourceful by sourcing parts from overseas and from other little two-wheelers. All the fabrication and custom work on this bike were done by John Ward at Composimo Fabrications. You can find this tricked-out Grom for sale in Westchester, NY with a price of $6,500 here on Craigslist.
