Hot Rod Feature – 1987 Harley-Davidson XLCR

The XLCR is one of my favorite Harley-Davidson motorcycles, if only for the sharp departure it took from the company’s usual offerings. With that said, it couldn’t compete in the market for varying reasons. There weren’t many made (about 3,000), meaning the remaining ones are highly collectible.

In 1987, 9 years after the XLCR was discontinued, Nick Ienatsch built a custom version that used a 1,100cc Evo motor, SuperTrapp 2-to-1 exhaust, Storz rear-set footrests, and apparently a tank and a tail section that were bought NOS back in ’87. Nick was Feature Editor of Motorcyclist Magazine at the time, but the bike itself was featured in the December ’87 issue of Hot Rod. It was incredibly popular, and was supposedly what the Cafe Racer should have been. 5 years ago, Bonham’s sold a replica of this bike, but now Brad’s Bikes claims to have the original for sale.

Find this beautiful XLCR for sale here at Brad’s Bikes (it’s on the second row) in Atlanta, Georgia for $9,500.
