Post Listing Update: This R90S did not meet reserve with 2 bids up to $11,216.

As we’ve learned from the last few examples I’ve featured, the R90S is actually a fairly polarizing bike for the readers of Bike-urious. It’s also one of the most iconic, thanks in part to a first place finish by Reg Pridmore in the inaugural AMA Superbike Championship. It was the perfect way for BMW to show the motorcycling public that they could build more than just staid touring bikes. Here’s a lovely example in Daytona Orange which reflects well on past owners – it’s been kept in good shape but there are sensible upgrades for someone who wants to put some miles on their classic. The seller has another example in Smoke Silver and he can’t justify having the same bike in different colors. No one can fault him there, but he’s letting this one go because he thinks the Smoke Silver looks better and I suspect some of you may disagree on that point! Informal poll – which color do you prefer?

This example (VIN: 4990708) has 52,175 miles and it looks pretty tasty in the photos. As you’d expect, there’s some minor cosmetic flaws that come with 40+ years and 50k+ miles – the most sever of which is a small ‘ding’ on the front fairing. If it bothers you, the seller’s including a brand new fairing with no damage. The bike has been thankfully given electronic ignition, though purists will appreciate that the original points are included in the sale. The other non-original pieces are an aftermarket diode board (replaced after the OEM unit failed), stainless steel brake lines, a clutch from Bench Mark Works, and Napoleon bar end mirrors (original mirrors included). The bike still has the original tire pump, all keys, the owners manual, and Krauser bags. Considering the weather, the luggage, and the condition of this bike, I’m hoping the next owner is planning on a fly and ride! For those of you local to the seller, the bike is currently on display in the window of a shop called Town Moto in Toronto. Brand experts in the comment section (I love you guys and gals, you keep me honest!) may have noticed two issues: the passenger pegs are missing and the front fender is reversed. Have no fear, the seller assures me that both of those have been addressed since the photos were recently taken.
