The swan song of the Laverda air-cooled triple from a competitive standpoint, the Laverda RGS 1000 TT1 was a production racer built to compete in Italy’s Formula 1 series. The hope was that good performance on the track would yield higher sales of the basic production RGS. Today we’ve got one of the production RGS bikes that was converted into a works replica nearly 3 decades ago.

Laverda RGS 1000 TT1 - Engine

The true race bike had a very short lifespan as the FIM limited displacement to 750cc soon after the bike debuted. But it seemed to have potential, with 105 horsepower from a Augusto Brettoni designed engine pushing 400 pounds of weight and a well-designed double cradle frame. For more information on the legitimate race bike, check out this writeup from Laverda Corse, an informal team dedicated to preserving the heritage of Laverda.

Laverda RGS 1000 TT1 - Rear

This specific Laverda RGS 1000 TT1 (VIN: 1051) has 7,894 miles and was originally delivered as a standard red RGS. The original owner (in Italy) dismantled it in ’88 and had it rebuilt to factory TT1 specs, including wider Fredericoni mag wheels, full floater Brembo Gold brakes, Bitubo supension, and more. It will not be a civilized bike, but I’m sure it’ll be a ton of fun. As the seller says,

“You aren’t taking a summer trip on this one. Your neighbors will not like this bike.”
