Rare Project – 1961 Parilla Clipper 350

In Italy, Standard by Ted CloughLeave a Comment

Parilla is an Italian motorcycle company formed after World War II. Famous for their “high cam” engines, they made several different model bikes, mostly small-displacement utilitarian and commuter bikes for the postwar market. Some models were imported to the US, and supported by Cosmopolitan Motors until the late 60’s. This is a rare, twin-cylinder, 350cc “Clipper” model. Acccording to the seller and an interesting Parilla Enthusiast’s Website, there were only a few of these imported to the US.

This Clipper is in running condition, but will certainly need a lot of work if you want to return it to show condition. There are several pictures on the ad, some of poor quality (a particular pet peeve of mine), but enough to show lots of surface corrosion and rust.

I would guess that the bodywork has been repainted. Importantly, it appears all the bodywork and controls are intact. Be advised that parts for these bikes will be pretty much non-existent, so if it is not there, you will have to fabricate it or make do with a similar substitute.

If your tastes run to exotic Italian bikes, this would be a rewarding project, but you will have to do some serious haggling to get a price that would make it worth your effort. This Parilla is located in Nashville and listed for $15,000! Find it here on Craigslist.
