Restored – 1987 Yamaha YSR50

This YSR is in impressive shape thanks to a recent restoration to what the seller calls “show quality” in a bit of exaggeration. Since the work was done it’s had a few miles put on it, but this is still one of the nicer YSR’s I’ve seen in a long time. Most examples spend their lives getting beat up and few people think they’re worth the investment required for a restoration.

It’s built to look like a mini RZ500, and the performance was mini as well. The 49.3cc two-stroke engine was capable of pushing the bike up to 38 miles per hour, but companies like Team Calamari have been making stock performance numbers useless with years of aftermarket parts and performance modifications.

This example (VIN: jya2rr007ha005443) has 1,280 miles and it features a “JDM kit” which relocates the rear turn signals in a much cleaner location from the OEM US spot. Flaws include a small crack in the front fairing and a non-functional horn. The tank was repainted but everything else has simply been cleaned. A recent service included a carb cleaning, oil change, brake fluid flush, and a new spark plug/chain/brake pads.
