Post Listing Update: This beautiful AJS did not get any interest at the opening ask of $19,530.

AJS (A.J. Stevens & Co) was founded in 1909, and they quickly racked up a series of world records. Unfortunately, as the 1930s began the firm was in financial in trouble and by ’31 the company was disbanded and the rights were sold to Matchless. That makes this one of the last bikes AJS built as an independent company.

I struggled to find information on the S8, though the seller mentions that approximately 900 were built in 1931. The 498cc single snet 5 horsepower through a 3-speed Sturmey-Archer transmission with a handshifter. Thankfully, I can do one better than simply summarizing some details about this bike (VIN: 63298) – it was actually the subject of a story on Motorcycle Classics!

How it started.

The sale will include a few spares like a period magneto, extra gearbox housing, timing cover, and more. Find this AJS for sale in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with an unmet opening bid of approximately $19,530
