7-25-17 Update: A year and 300 miles later, this DB2 is back up for sale. The seller makes reference to the previous eBay listing and since he bought it he’s done a good amount of work.
The most obvious cosmetic changes are that he powdercoated the wheels and repaired the scuff that was on the tail. Some mechanical work was also performed: cleaned the carbs, replaced belts,
replaced the tires, changed the fluids, and more. The seller also mentions that he reached out to Ducati to confirm if the serial number means that this was the first DB2 but he never heard from them. Either way, he’s definitely improved this bike since he bought it, which is why he’s asking for $12,500 in Los Angeles, California here on Ducati.ms.

Post-Sale Update: S/N #1 of the Bimota DB2 line sold for $10,076 after 13 bids on eBay.

The DB2 featured a 900cc 2 valve Ducati engine (best known for its usage in the 900SS). A bike for those who thought Ducati wasn’t exclusive enough, this example stands out as it’s claimed to be serial number 1 – though no photographic evidence is provided to back that up.

Bimota DB2 - Front Left

As you could guess from the naming convention, this is the successor to the DB1, though you got more revealing bodywork and top notch components like 41mm Paioli forks and a rear Ohlins shock, both fully adjustable. The air-cooled V-Twin yielded 86 horsepower (a slight upgrade from the 900SS thanks to a different intake and exhaust system. Weighing just 370 pounds, nearly every press reviewed ended with a comment that this was the best Bimota yet. Want to learn more? Check out this summary from Sports Car Market in 2009.

Bimota DB2 - Tail Damage

This example is claimed to be number one, although it’s titled as a 1994. This should be a red flag as the DB2 was introduced in 1993, though the seller later notes that the frame shows a manufacturing date of July 1993. I assume all doubt would be erased if the seller displayed a photo of the VIN, which I would request if I was interested in acquiring this potential collectible. Other issues include tires that should be replaced and some damage to the left rear tail. The seller says he’s always kept the bike indoors and he runs it every couple of months.
