Post Listing Update: Despite 43 bids up to $20,200, this Chief did not meet reserve.

In 1947, Indian sold 12,000 Chiefs. The next year, Indian only built 3,000 of them as they were shifting production to smaller bikes like the Arrow. The relative rarity makes the ’48 Chief special, but this example is even more interesting as it’s had just two owners and it is highly original.

This example runs and rides and it’s highly original. With that said, the seller can’t identify the frame number and it’s unclear why that’s the case. The original owner (Bernie) modernized his bike over the years as he couldn’t afford a new one so it has some pieces (like a fork cover) from newer Chiefs.

It needs some work – you’ll need to install a battery and the spot lights aren’t wired, but there’s a lot to love about this Chief. So, find it for sale in Plainfield, New Hampshire with bidding up to $19,880 and the reserve not yet met
