Wide Case Racer – 1968 Ducati 450 Non-Desmo

Though it could be plated for street duty because it’s got lights, a horn, and all that other good stuff, this 450 is currently setup for racing. Note that despite the “Desmo” on the tank, the original head was replaced with a conventional head for “reliability reasons” and the Desmo head is no longer available.

Despite the lack of desmo goodness, there’s a lot to like about this bike. It’s currently equipped with a fiberglass tank and seat, clipons and rearsets from an unnamed manufacturer, and Marzocchi reservoir twin shocks (which look great, if I do say so myself). Per the seller, this was raced by the previous owner and would still be competitive in various classes on short tracks.

The seller/current owner acquired it as a collectible and as such has not raced the bike him/herself. It’s said to have been carefully stored and well maintained so it runs well. It’s got a clean title and could be plated. So what would you? Keep it as a racer or put a license plate on it so you could enjoy it on the street?
