In 1998, Cagiva created a naked version of their two-stroke 124cc Mito Evo. The Mito was designed by Massimo Tamburini, and it looked an awful lot like the Ducati 916 that he also penned. You’d therefore be forgiven for thinking that the Planet would look like the Monster, though that really wasn’t the case. Whether or not you think it looks like a Monster, you can’t deny that these are very rare finds in the US. This is the first Planet I’ve ever featured.
The 1/8th liter motor produced 23 horsepower, which is plenty considering how small and nimble it is. 125s are typically budget bikes but the Planet had upside down forks and good Brembo brakes. The most interesting feature might be a tank that swings up on a hinge, revealing enough space for a rider to store his or her helmet! For more on the Planet, check out this review from MCN. In 2003, Cagiva replaced the Planet with a 125cc version of the Raptor, a Suzuki V-Twin powered sister to the Ducati Monster.
This example has just 156 miles and it’s said to be in excellent condition. That’s pretty much all the seller has to say, which is frustrating because it should be made clear from a listing if a bike like this (which was not officially sold in the US) is legally registered/plated already.
