166 Miles – 1983 Honda CB1100R

I’ve seen my share of CB1100Rs over the years but the one we’re auctioning off over at Iconic is the nicest one I’ve ever encountered. It was imported from Australia when new and it’s basically been on display since – I’m hoping the next owner puts some miles on it!

Considered to be Honda’s first homologation special, the CB1100R is a legend among Honda fans – especially those based in the US, where this bike was never officially sold. The CBR was offered in 1981 (RB), 1982 (RC), and 1983 (RD). As a RD, this bike is one of 1,500 examples. The RD was differentiated by a metallic red paint job with a silver Honda logo on the tank.

The CB11R was an evolution of the CB900F – the 900 engine was bored out, bumping displacement up to 1062cc and the new motor produced 115 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. Honda immediately started winning with it, commencing with a victory at the ’81 New Zealand Castrol Six Hour. It was big and it was heavy, but it was damn fast. Despite the 518 pound weight, the new one piece frame combined with Honda’s first use of twin-piston calipers and nitrogen-charged piggyback shocks in a production bike made this bike successful on race tracks that favored fast sweepers over tight hairpins. Top speed was 149 miles per hour, making it the fastest bike of its time.

This example has basically been on display its whole life. The seller had us service everything so that it’s a runner but the old tires were left on so those can stay for display purposes or they’d need to be replaced if you want to ride it (and I hope you do).

Find this CB1100R for sale in Panorama City, California with bidding up to $11,100 here on Iconic Motorbike Auctions.
