As it was never officially sold in the US, Yamaha’s TRX850 is a bike that I don’t see very often. But with MCN calling it (in hindsight) “the best-kept secret in motorcycling” and a “forgotten gem,” it’s definitely worth a closer look. The oversimplified idea was that this was a “Ducati with Japanese reliability.“
The parallel twin 849cc engine produced 79 horsepower and it was the first production engine with a 270 degree crankshaft. Sales were disappointing and Yamaha killed it after 4 years, but the bike seems to be remembered quite fondly by moto-journalists and owners.
This example has 43,772 kilometers (27,198 miles). Per the seller, this was “recently imported from Japan and serviced by the technicians here at Cycle Refinery, this TRX850 has had the carburetors cleaned, all fluids changed, new battery installed and is ready to ride!”
Find this TRX for sale in Austin, Texas for $5,995 here on Cycle Refinery.
