The R90S is one of the most notable motorcycles in BMW history – though the last time I featured one I got plenty of comments from Bike-urious readers saying it’s highly overrated. Not that it’s bad, just that it’s a fine bike that gets blown out of proportion. I have to admit, I haven’t ridden one (though I’ll get my …
Chopped – 1979 Yamaha SR500
Built by Iron Cobras Fabrication of Long Beach, California, this SR500 has been chopped and given larger wheels – 21″ in the rear and 23″ in the front. What do you think about it?
Ed’s Burton – Norton Dominator Frame with Buell X1 Motor
The usual suspect with a non-OEM motor in a Norton frame is Triumph, though occasionally I’ve featured Harley swaps like the “Narley“. Here’s one I haven’t seen before: a Buell X1 motor in a Norton Dominator frame. Together, they become the “Burton”.
1962 BMW R90/2
Yes, that’s right – a 90/2! The seller started with a R60/2 and then swapped in the motor, transmission, and final drive from a ’74 R90/6. There’s plenty of modifications that we’ll look at in a moment, but what’s mot interesting to me is that “all chrome has been powdercoated red to make [the] bike appear as massive as possible.”
High Potential – 1978 Moto Guzzi CX100
Aesthetics are subjective, so I’ll just say I’m not a huge fan of how this bike looks. But the seller has had it for 17 years and done a tremendous amount of work to the mechanical side of things. Unfortunately, he has to let it go because he’s moving overseas. I think that with a little bit of cosmetic attention, …
Almost Done – 1977 Kawasaki KZ650 with Turbocharged GSX-R 750 Motor
There’s only one picture, and the seller says it’s tuned and rideable but it still needs a little work. I say whoever BUYS this needs a little work, but it’s so bonkers that I have to share.
1969 BSA 441 Victor
We have featured several BSA Victors over the years here. They are always a crowd favorite, and could serve as the poster-boy for the original “dual-sport” concept – take a race bike, add lights, a mirror and pretty it up a bit, and go!
Champion Framed – Yamaha DT250 Flat Tracker
Champion racing frames were the highly sought after handiwork of Californian Doug Schwerma. He built frames in the late sixties and early seventies that were highly desired by flat track racers – “champions” like Don Vesco, Steve Baker, and Kenny Roberts could be seen riding Champion frames. After Schwerma passed away, the Champion frame design and name went to another …
Ending Soon – 1975 Honda CB500T Cafe Racer
The T in CB500T meant that the 498cc engine was a parallel twin which produced 34 horsepower. Journalists considered the bike fairly bland and not a standout. Depending on your perspective, that either makes it an excellent or a terrible choice for customization like what’s happened with this example that’s for sale.
Cheapest I’ve Seen – 1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo
Two years ago, I featured a Seca Turbo for $1,800, and I called it the “Cheapest I’ve Seen.”. Now thanks to reader Larry R, we’ve got a new champion.
Original Owner – 1985 Yamaha RZ350 with Spec II Bodywork
I’ve featured plenty of RZ350s over the years – they’re great bikes though they’re not exactly rare. With that said, this example stands out as it was brought back to life in 2014 and it features a full front fairing and rear tail from Spec II.
1984 Moto Guzzi SP1000 with Sidecar and Trailer
A few weeks ago, I featured a modern Harley with a sidecar and trailer, and the general consensus (understandably) was that you’d be better off with a truck. While that might be true, I still find these combinations interesting – triply so when it’s a classic Italian, the sidecar allows the bike to lean, and everything is painted to match!
Thailand Spec – 2004 Honda CBR150R Repsol
Honda never sold the CBR150R in the US, but at least two examples have somehow made its way to the States. This one has just 2 miles and it’s currently on display on the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa.
V7 Sport Bodywork – 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T
This 850T has over 60,000 miles, but it’s been tastefully upgraded to make it an excellent choice for someone who wants to get out and ride their classic motorcycle.
Silver Surfer – 1992 Honda NX650
Another day, another NX650 custom! Yesterday I featured the “Growler”, a minimalist take on Honda’s dual-sport that was slightly more street-oriented than the XR650. Today we’ve got the “Silver Surfer”, built by Jeffrey Wardenaar at Motogadgets.
