CB1100R Motor – 1982 Bimota HB2

The successor of the uber-limited HB1, the Bimota HB2 replicated the formula of Honda engine inside a Bimota frame. This time Bimota used the engine from the CB900F, and produced a much more reasonable number of examples – 193 of them. But this one may be a one-of-one, as the original owner decided to go a slightly different route with the powerplant…

A stock 900F engine produced around 95 horsepower. The CB1100R engine that was installed instead? 115! per the seller, this bike was originally sold to a wealthy gentleman who bought a CB1100R just to get the drivetrain, then had Harris Performance put together the HB2 kit. The first owner had it for 17 years and the second owner had it for 20 years.

Per usual, Bimota used high spec parts like Ceriani forks, and De Carbon shocks to complement the in-house frame. The bike was 441 pounds – a whopping 70 less than the CB900F. One magazine was able to hit 138 miles per hour in a period test and the handling put nearly every other bike to shame. In addition to the CB1100R parts (including the engine, clocks, and electrics), this specific bike has Maxton suspension, Spondon discs, Campagnolo magnesium wheels that were refurbished by Dymag, and more.
