The Dirtbag Challenge was an interesting event in which entrants would have limited time and budget to build a chopper that also has to be ridden at least 100 miles on the day of the event. Here’s an oddball entrant from a few years ago that started as a Yamaha RD400!
It’s an interesting event, and I’d recommend checking out some of these articles discussing previous runnings:

One of the names you’ll see in some of those stories is Julian Farnam, who unfortunately passed away recently. This Yamaha was one of his creations, and the seller is helping Julian’s widow with the sale.
Per the seller, “this is one of Julian’s Dirtbag Challenge creations. It was built for and participated in one of the DB Challenges. Engine is a 1A1 RD400 as is the frame. Very nice aluminum wire spoke wheels with vintage drum brakes. Toomey expansion chambers with short Toomey silencers. Extremely unique Julian hand-built front and rear suspension, rear sub frame, and many other custom fabricated components.”
“There is no fuel in the gas tank. I do not know the last time this motorcycle has been started. It should run just fine if some premix is put in the fuel tank. I will not be starting it. It is being sold as is and will not be started or put in to running condition for this sale.”
