Post Sale Update: sold for $25,145 on Iconic Motorbike Auctions in Santa Monica, California.

Arguably the most desirable version of Ducati’s legendary 916 is the ’97 SPS – and we’ve got one that’s met reserve and is about to sell!

The Sport Production Special was built to homologate the new 996cc engine for Superbike competition, and just 404 examples were built in 1997. Amusingly, the SPS was only road legal in Europe. Ducati didn’t conform to EPA regulations, so they sold it as a ‘track-only’ bike and made buyers sign a waiver saying that you wouldn’t register it for road use. As you might imagine, pretty much everyone ignored the waiver, as the bike came with a VIN, lights, a title, and everything needed to register the bike.

This example (VIN: ZDMH100AAVB000032) has just 191 miles and it’s in staggering cosmetic condition. As you’d expect from a bike that’s been on display for 2 decades, it would need some recommissioning before it gets ridden again.

Find this SPS for sale in Marina del Rey, California with bidding up to $23,500 here on Iconic Motorbike Auctions.
