The first time I met Bike-urious reader Glen Irani, he let me take his Ducati Hypermotard 1100S out for a spin – I’ve been in love with the air-cooled model ever since. They’re incredibly fun to ride, which is why it’s surprising to see one with just 245 miles on it.
As its name suggests, the 1100 is powered by the Ducati’s venerable air-cooled, fuel-injected, two-valve-per-cylinder, desmo V-Twin. Now displacing 1078cc, up from 992cc, the engine produces a claimed 90 horsepower and 76 foot-pounds of torque. Dry weight is said to be 390 pounds. This S version includes standard diamond-like carbon fork coating, reservoir-equipped Öhlins shock, monobloc Brembo brake calipers, and forged Marchesini wheels.
This example is offered by the original owner, who notes that it’s equipped with a titanium/carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust, some carbon fiber trim, and a battery tender. The fluids were recently changed (though the belts have definitely aged out by now). These ar ereally great bikes and while there’s a price premium for the low mileage here, I don’t actually think it’s all that bad. Replace the belts, replace the tires, and go rip around with one of my favorite air-cooled engines ever (why yes, there might be the same motor in my Bimota Tesi 3D).
