I first heard about Matt Brown on one on my favorite episodes of Jay Leno’s Garage – he bought a Honda S600 without an engine and then swapped in the drivetrain from a Honda CBR1000RR sportsbike. Jay calls him part of the “more-brains-than-money club”, and it looks like Matt’s attitude hasn’t changed as he also found himself trying to build …
1984 Yamaha RZV500R
Titled in Florida but located in Wyoming, this RZV500R is one of the rare examples that’s ready to ride in the US. It was originally offered in Japan and a few other non-US markets. The first production bike with a 2-stroke V4 engine, the RZV (also known as the RD500LC in some markets) was built as a tribute to the …
VIN 1/Engine #1 – 1985/6 Suzuki GSX-R 1100 Prototype
Post Listing Update: The BIN was reduced to $120,000 and then this bike was removed from eBay, final sale price unknown. I thought yesterday’s basically-new Bimota Tesi 1D had a significant asking price, but it turns out that the same seller has got something that they think is even more valuable – a prototype of the most iconic motorcycles of …
Imported – 1982 Honda CD200 Roadmaster
12-21-17 Update: Another 2 years later, this bike has apparently made its way to a dealership which is now offering it at a significant discount – find it with a Buy It Now of $5,999 or best offer here on eBay. 12-18 Update: Over a year later, reader Tom D. notes that this bike is still available, though the listing …
First of the RR’s – 1993 Honda CBR900RR
Today, Honda’s CBR RR bikes are staples in the brand’s lineup, but this designation wouldn’t appear on large models until 1992 with the CBR900RR, aka the “Fireblade”. This model would play an important role in the evolution of sport bikes, which prior to the 900RR’s release were increasingly focused on top speed. This meant heavy bikes with long wheelbases, something …
First Ride – 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS
View PostElectric Start – 1975 Yamaha RD200B
Post Sale Update: This RD200 sold for $1,775 after 32 bids on eBay. Yamaha’s famous two-stroke street bike line-up of “RD” models had several displacements for the discerning rider – 125, 200, 250, 350, and 400. Oddly enough, the 200 was the only one that Yamaha installed an electric starter to, and the sidecovers boldly advertised that fact.
1998 Honda Z50R
Introduced in 1979, Honda’s Z50R was built in response to a market that was looking to take mini trail bikes on to the track. Here’s one of the last examples, as Honda would replace the model in 2000 with the XR50R. Over a 20 year production run, Honda sold over 500,000 units.
Limited Edition – 1976 Honda Gold Wing GL1000 LTD
Post Listing Update: This Gold Wing was pulled off of eBay due to “an error in the listing.” I assume the seller got an offer that he/she liked, final sale price unknown. In just the second year of production, Honda decided to release a limited edition of its instant classic Gold Wing for the American market. It was said to …
Doubled Displacement – DT100-Powered 1988 Yamaha YSR50
Produced from ’87 to ’92, Yamaha’s YSR50 was a mini sport bike that offered many amenities typically reserved for larger displacement models. Because of this, the full-faired 50cc scoot frequently had its engine swapped-out for something more powerful as the bike’s stock sub-40mph top-speed really left something to be desired. This particular example has had a 100cc Yamaha enduro engine …
What Do You Want To Know? 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS
UPDATE: Here’s my First Ride review! I don’t often share news about bikes before they’re released, but as Kawasaki started dropping hints about the upcoming Z900RS I had to tell you about it because I know how many of you love the Z1 that inspires this new model. I’m attending the launch of the Z900RS later this week – is …
Unexpected Custom – 1987 Yamaha SDR200
Post Sale Update: After 36 bids on eBay, this SDR200 sold for $2,925. Originally built just for the Japanese market, the SDR200 was a small cafe racer that predated the Ducati Monster with a trellis frame, naked styling, and the three-spoke wheels. It was only offered for one year, and a tiny amount of them found their way in to …
Built for Norman Reedus – 1982 Yamaha XV920 Custom
Classified Moto has made a name for themselves with a signature style and an affinity for classic Japanese machinery. They’ve made some oddballs but they’ve deservedly earned plenty of fans and done some celebrity builds in the process. One of those builds for celebrities was this Yamaha XV920 built for a star of the Walking Dead, Norman Reedus. Fans of …
Whopper Of A Chopper – 1979 Suzuki OR50
The asking price for this ($3,500) is a little silly, but it’s so rare that I thought I should make you aware of it at the very least. I’ve featured one in the past that sold for just over a grand but example had 10 times the mileage. This little moto has just 160 miles.
Restored – 1966 Honda CL77 Scrambler
The seller originally bought this bike to learn how to wrench on bikes and get some quality time in with his son. The project is over and the seller has too many other bikes to keep this around, so now it can be yours.
