Post Sale Update: After 2 bids on eBay, this sold for $19,000. However, it was relisted and then sold again for a BIN of $17,999. When Kenny Roberts won a World Championship with the YZR500 OW70, Yamaha decided to honor the occasion with the world’s first production bike equipped with a 2-stroke V4 motor. Meet the RZV500R, which was never …
Nice Options – 1961 BMW R69S
Post Listing Update: Despite 26 bids up to $12,600, this R69S did not meet reserve. In a 1962 review of the BMW R69S, Cycle World said, “Whatever the BMW’s merits in a contest of speed, it is still the smoothest, best finished, quietest and cleanest motorcycle it has ever been our pleasure to ride. To be honest, we think that …
In England – 1949 Egli Vincent
Built in 1997 with a 1949 Vincent Rapide Series C motor (F10AB/1/2168), this beautiful Egli-framed motorcycle has a frame number from a 1952 Vincent Comet (RC/1/11576 B). It looks great but I’d love to throw a cowl on the rear end of that seat.
Yellow Speed Blocks – 1976 Yamaha RD400C
Post Sale Update: After 33 bids on eBay, this RD sold for $4,050. The biggest of the RD’s, the RD400 debuted in 1976 with an evolution of the powerplant from the RD350. For many riders in the 70s, this was the motorcycle to have. Visordown called it a Bike Icon, saying “Cool doesn’t even come close.”
1976 Bimota SB2
I’ve featured a couple of SB2s in the past, but this is the first one that’s available in the US. This was one of the first streetbikes with a monoshock and it had adjustable steering geometry.
Impressive Replica – “1975” Bimota HB1
View PostNew In Crate – 1980 Honda CBX
I’ve featured a couple of CBXs in the last week, but this one takes the cake. It’s still in the crate!
1 of 250 – 1978 Kawasaki Z1R-TC
Post Sale Update: This Z1R-TC sold for $27,300 after 20 bids on eBay. TCC stood for the Turbo Cycle Corporation, and it was created to sell bolt on turbos for motorcycles built by American Turbo-Pak. The founder of TCC was a former Kawasaki USA employee named Alan Masek, and he used his contacts to help develop the first ‘production’ turbocharged …
Well-Upgraded – 2009 Harley-Davidson XR1200
Post Sale Update: This XR1200 sold for $6,000 to Bike-urious contributor Ted C! Harley understandably doesn’t get much love from riders who prefer sporty steeds, but the XR1200 was a pleasant surprise. A modern and mellow take on the XR750, the 12 was originally only sold in Europe until the US market correctly noted how dumb that decision was. Even …
Nice Price, Nicer Bike – 2013 MV F3 675
The MV Agusta F3 675 is one of my favorite motorcycles. It offers the power of a modern 600 inline-four with a much more practical, street-friendly powerband. Before the F3, MV Agusta hadn’t made a production three-cylinder model since the days of Giacomo Agostini in the 70’s. If you don’t include the T12 – which Massimo Tamburini didn’t live to …
Hondaline Fairing – 1982 Honda CB900F Super Sport
Post Sale Update: After 29 bids on eBay, this CB900F sold for $2,350…to a Bike-urious reader! More details coming soon. Available for just two years in the US, the CB900F Super Sport was made famous by Fast Freddie Spencer in Superbike racing. Honda initially had no plans of selling the 900 in the US because the US already had the …
Rare in the Wild – 1962 Honda CB72 Hawk 250
1961 was a relatively big year for Honda. In addition to carry-over models from the previous year, Big Red introduced half-a-dozen new scoots. A race-spec version of the Benly Super Sport – known as the CB92R – was released in March of ’61 equipped with a solo racing seat, chrome megaphone pipes, a tachometer in place of the speedo, and …
Restored and Upgraded – 1980 Honda CBX
Post Listing Update: Bidding got up to $6,501.01 but the seller then pulled this CBX off of eBay. Final sale price unknown. It wasn’t the first six-cylinder modern motorcycle (that honor goes to the Benelli Sei), but Honda’s CBX was the most popular of them. The only issue is that “popular 6-cylinder” was still a poor selling motorcycle, so it …
Rare Turbo – 1983 Suzuki XN85
Post Listing Update: This XN85 got no action at the asking price of $6,500. The rarest of all Japanese production turbo bikes, the XN85 Turbo had just 1,183 examples. Of those, just 300 were imported to the US. This example needs a little work but with some elbow grease and a few bucks you can be a star at your …
A Collection of 6 Sportbikes
Someone in Denver, Colorado is letting go of a fine collection of 6 bikes. Normally when someone offers up a set like this the asking prices are all silly. In this case, I think they’re quite reasonable. Which would you want to take home?
