Editor’s Note: Reader dnaj has just picked up another bike featured on Bike-urious, and this time he’s sharing the entire story himself! I enjoy these posts because they make my life worth living. =) Hopefully you enjoy them, too.
Rally Prepped – 2012 Honda ST1300
Starting with a Honda ST1300, the seller of this bike “spared no expense” when he turned it into a bike that would let you be competitive in something like the Iron Butt Rally. There are $15,000 worth of parts on this thing, and it features one of the craziest cockpit views I’ve ever seen.
Spare Parts Party – 1975 Moto Morini 3 1/2
Post Sale Update: This 3.5 sold for $4,325 after 21 bids on eBay. Offered with no reserve, this Moto Morini 3 1/2 stands out thanks to the rare paint color and a plethora of spare parts. Some are NOS, some are used but in good shape, and some will need some work – but it’s way more than you usually …
Stuck Motor – 1913 Harley-Davidson Model 9E
Post Listing Update: This 9E project did not meet reserve despite 77 bids up to $33,900. Featuring a “7-8 horsepower” engine, the Model 9E was a twin that had a roller chain transmission. 1913 got a few refinements over the previous year, including larger inlet and exhaust chambers, more clearance between the tires and mudguards, wider forks, and more. MSRP …
Gear Review – Viking Cycle Warlock Mesh Jacket
View Post1996 Ducati 900 SS/CR
Ducati offered the 900SS between 1991 and 1998, and during that time they sold a full-fairing version (the SS/SP) and a half-fairing version (the SS/CR). I find the latter more attractive, though the ’96 and newer CRs have non-rebuildable Marzochhi front forks that some riders aren’t happy with – don’t worry, this seller has dealt with that. This example has …
Turbo Supermoto – 2008 Yamaha WR280X
For a few years, Yamaha offered one of the only factory supermotos that US riders could buy. Based on the WR250R, the X got 17 inch wheels with sticky street tires to complement the 249cc single that shared high tech features from the YZ250F motocross bike. I already like the 250X, but this example is on a whole ‘nother level …
No Reserve – 1976 BMW R90S
Post Sale Update: Sold for $6,000 after 9 bids on eBay. Normally when I feature a R90S, the seller’s got a 5 digit asking price and the bidding is often dead before it’s started. I like this listing because bidding starts at $4k…and there’s no reserve. Could it end up being a bargain? Probably, because the paint on the tank …
220 Miles – 1973 Harley-Davidson Z90
Built between 1973 and 1975, the Z90 was one of a series of small Harleys built by Aermacchi in the 70s. The bike may actually be best known as the ride of Kelly Leak (played by Jackie Earle Haley) in the Bad News Bears. Here’s a low mileage example from the first year of production.
Event Recap – White Rose Motorcycle Club Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Meet
This weekend the White Rose Motorcycle Club hosted their annual Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Meet & Bike Show, and reader David N. was kind of enough to share his visit with us all!
Double SSSA – 1993 Yamaha GTS1000 Custom
Post Sale Update: This GT custom sold for $2,475 after 13 bids on eBay. Yamaha’s GTS1000 is already a very interesting bike thanks to the James Parker-designed RADD front suspension. But this example is officially the coolest GTS I’ve ever seen, thanks to a rear wheel conversion to the single sided swing arm from a 3rd generation Honda VFR!
1982 Honda CB900F Super Sport
Post Listing Update: This Super Sport did not meet reserve despite 5 bids up to $2,859 on eBay. Hopefully you remember this paint scheme from Fast Freddie Spencer when he campaigned the Super Sport in Superbike racing. It’s an understated design that the US only got for two years, after riders demonstrated to Honda that they wanted the big brother …
2 Weeks In The West – Day 7
View PostVideo Intermission – X Games Real Moto 2016
This year, the X Games is introducing a new event called Real Moto, and it’s an “all-video motocross contest.” Weirdly, it has nothing to do with a live competition – this is all about pre-recorded video segments that “present each rider in their own unique style.” A panel of judges select the winners, though the public can vote to select …
500 Miles – 1986 Yamaha SRX600
The SRX600 is one of the defining examples of a cult classic in the US. It sold poorly and was canned after a year in America (though it was successful in the Japanese market), but the few people that bought them here really fell in love with them.
