A Tale of Two Commandos

Here’s a dilemma – do you want a fully restored Commando, or one that’s about to turn 40 that’s original and unrestored? What would you pick?

Here are today’s choices. First, a “no expense spared” restoration on a numbers-matching 750cc bike (VIN: 208444) which was also given a Boyer ignition.

Or do you take a chance because a bike is only original once? Here’s a 1975 Mk3 750cc with electric start (VIN: 331929) that has 20,805 miles over two owners.

Norton Commando Unrestored - Rear Left

According to the original sales slip (included), this bike sold in 1976 for $1,850 and a Triumph was traded in on it. It still has the original ignition key, and comes with some goodies like a K&N filter and the original Paul Dunstall Decibel silencers. It’s not perfect – you won’t get the tool kit, not all the idiot lights work, and the photos of the bike are apparently more flattering than reality. But hey, it’s a 40 year old unrestored bike!
