I end today’s Ducati trifecta with this absolute stunner – a Ducati 250cc F3 Racer. Built to compete in the Formula 3 series, this bike was partially based on the Marianna, though nearly nothing from the road bike 250cc engines were used. According to Bonham’s, which put up a similar bike for auction with an estimate of about $80k in January, only five or six 250cc F’s were built, and just two are known today.

Compared to the road bike, the frame was lower and lighter, thanks to 35mm Marzocchi forks, 19 in wheels, and a silly price. They were race bikes straight from the factory, and as such privater efforts and non-sponsored teams couldn’t afford the entry price. Because of that, very few F3s were ever built, especially in the largest 250cc displacement.

This specific Ducati 250cc F3 Racer was professionally restored by Altinier Motorsports of Treviso, Italy. The seller claims that it might have been the personal mount of Walter Villa, one of the perennial racers of the 60s and 70s, and this claim was based on an inspection by Villa’s brother.
