1969 Honda CL90

The ‘69 Honda CL90 was essentially an S90 that was ‘scramblerized’ to take advantage of America’s lust for off road motorcycles. In Honda terms that meant wide, braced handlebars, a ‘high rise’ exhaust with burn shield, increased height, ribbed tires and improved fender clearance front and rear. The rear clearance was more than adequate but I can tell you that the gravel roads I grew up on had bits that would stick between the ribs of the tires and proceed into the improved front fender clearance. After a horrible squawk the front wheel had a good chance of stopping, which is never good. Ever. The obvious answer was to discard the front fender…and every one I ever found in a parts pile had at least one scar from stopping the wheel.

The 1969 Honda CL90 used an 89 CC air cooled four stroke overhead cam motor coupled with a 4 speed transmission for a top speed in excess of 60 MPH. A lightweight pressed steel frame with hydraulic suspension fore and aft completed the very popular package.
