The Yamaha SRX600 is a cult classic, but it started as a commercial flop. In the US, it sold for just one year, and it was during a time when American riders valued power above everything else. A relatively light weight bike with a 41 horsepower motor just didn’t cut it – but for riders who can appreciate the styling, handling, and the nostalgia of having to kick over the 595cc single motor, the SRX is a rare, interesting classic. Here’s one that’s extra interesting as it’s been turned into a heck of a vintage single racer!

Basic stats of the SRX include 41 horsepower, a top speed of 106 miles per hour, and a wet weight of 387 pounds. For more information, check out this retrospective on Sport Rider (hosted on Cycle World) in which Dean Adams calls the bike misunderstood and says “by almost all definitions, the SRX is a fantastic all-around motorcycle.”

This example has has “full race” engine that displaces 626cc with a serious amount of improvements: “Falicon shaved, polished, welded and balanced crank w/Carillo rod, Wiseco hi-comp. piston, EDCO cyl. head, ported, O.S. SS valves, SwainTech ceramic coatings, Slipstream Tuning intakes, dual feed reduced fuel tank load, 2into2 tuned exh. w/carbon silencers, TT600 magnesium outer cases, FZR 600 RaceTech Gold Valved adj. fork, Fornales rising rate adj. shocks, Marchesini & Marvic Magnesium wheels, Brembo full floating rotors, GMD Computracked chassis.” The seller notes it’s a former WERA Vintage & Formula Clubman champion and it comes with a bunch of spares.
