Post-Sale Update: Though the original listing did not meet reserve at $7,100, reader Nelson B was able to acquire this bike after the listing. Congrats!

The obvious evolution of the KZ900, the Kawasaki KZ1000 was another straight line brute that got a heavier crankshaft along with the displacement bump. You could get the bike with chain or shaft drive, but either form could top 130 miles per hour. They were very popular police bikes – you may remember that this was the real star of CHiPs. Kawasaki KZ1000 - Rear Left

This specific KZ (VIN: KZT00A006962) has just under 25,000 miles on it. The seller notes that the front end is from the cruiser-spec LTD model which has dual disc brakes, a shorter fender, and more chrome around the headlight and gauges. Both brakes have been rebuilt, the front has braided steel lines, and all the bearings in the steering head, swingarm, and wheels have been replaced. The bike has been repainted, the carbs have been rebuilt, and lots of other smaller parts have been taken care of. The seller took four months to try to bring this KZ close to original, and it’s one of the best examples of the breed I’ve seen in a long time – though the seller notes that it’s not a full restoration and the bike is not perfect.
