Boat Tail With 523 Miles – 1971 Harley-Davidson FX Super Glide

In America, Cruiser by AbhiLeave a Comment

Considered by some to be the first factory custom bike, the Harley-Davidson FX Super Glide was Willie G’s brainchild and an attempt to satisfy the countless H-D enthusiasts that would customize their brand new Harleys. Harley recently announced that they’re bringing back the “Super Glide” for 2026 with just 2,500 serialized examples and a White Onyx Pearl paint scheme that apes the original, so it only seems appropriate to feature a low-mile example of what started it all for those of you that prefer the classics.

Here’s what the new one looks like:

Willie decided to build a production bike that offered custom looks – the “FX” title stands for Factory Experimental. Combining parts from the FLH (the frame/rear suspension/drivetrain) and XL (front suspension/headlight/brakes) models, you also got buckhorn handlebars and the distinctive boattail fender. It did not sell well. As a ’71, this is a first year model of the FX Super Glide. Sales increased when the rear styling was changed, but I like the way the boattail has aged.

This example (VIN: 2C30410H1) is adorned in the iconic “Sparkling America” livery that the original Super Glides were best known for, and obviously it stands out with the incredibly low mileage. The seller states that it is a 3-owner bike that’s unrestored with original paint. It’s spent most of its life in a dealership collection and is offered with an Illinois title. It’s got the original Goodyear tires and is said to run flawlessly though I didn’t see a video in the listing.
