Over on the auction site we’ve got a very nice example of a Ducati 998 that I thought was worth sharing. It’s just had a fresh service and it has less than 4,000 miles!
For 2002, Ducati gifted the 998 the Testastretta motor that had just won the WSBK championship in 996R guise. The new heart was good for 123 hp and 71 lb-ft at the crank, up from 112 and 67, respectively. What reviewers found most impressive was how quickly the new engine spun up and how compact the complete package was. Motorcyclist said, “Overall, this 998 feels more like a 748 that swallowed a really big gulp of nitrous than it does a 996.” If you’re actually looking to ride, the 998 makes sense to me because the Testastretta engine is so much easier to work one but it still retains the lovely styling of the 916.
This example (VIN: ZDM1SB5V52B018651) stands out to me due to the modifications, long ownership (15 years with the current owner) and the low mileage (3,571). We just did a full service on it (including belts) so it’s mechanically solid for a while but it will need tires, plus it’s got a Termi exhaust, Dymag wheels, and some small carbon fiber bits.

Find this 998 for sale in Panorama City, California with bidding up to $10,000 and the reserve not yet met (remember that there’s a 7% buyer’s fee) here on Iconic Auctions.
