In 1985, Aprilia started outsourcing some of their engine production to Rotax – the AF1 was one of the earlier results of this partnership.

The 125cc Rotax engine put out about 27 horsepower and the styling drew attention wherever it went. A 1988 review of this bike in Performance Bikes magazine had an amusing byline: “Never heard of Aprilia? You will if they make any more bikes like the AF1 125.” The model was also known as the Project 108, and top speed was just under 100 miles per hour.

This example is said to start and run but it’s only offered on a Bill of Sale. The odometer shows 9,913 kilometers (about 6,160 miles). I don’t know these bikes particularly well but I believe the “aprilia” logo on the tank is aftermarket and the “aprilia” logo on the tail should instead say “ELECTRIC STARTER 125” Maybe one of our resident experts will be able to confirm?
