1978 Yamaha SR500

Post Sale Update: This SR500 sold for $4,500 after 18 bids on eBay in Camano Island, Washington.

The SR500 had a strong British vibe, and this custom takes it even further.

Approximately 15,000 examples of the SR500 were built between 1978 and 1981. Top speed was just shy of the ton thanks to 33 horsepower and a 353 pound dry weight. The bike was released after Yamaha had tremendous success with the XT500 and they decided a street oriented bike built around the 500 single was a good idea. They were right. The seller of this example acquired it as a stock bike, and then he rebuilt it as a “custom cafe racer” with a powdercoated frame/triple tree/side stand/center stand. He sourced non-US SR500 hubs and paired them with Sun wheels and Buchanan spokes. There are also several parts from MotoLanna, gas shocks, and new gauges. The seller has put on 670 miles since the rebuild.
