The “Special” variant of Yamaha’s XS650 were modified with a teardrop tank and pull back handlebars for some extra style. Here’s a Midnight Black and Gold example of the popular bike, and it has just 2,700 miles.
The 654cc engine was good for about 50 horsepower, which was enough for the 450 pound (dry) bike. As a ’79, this example (VIN: 2F0-154758) is from the last year before Yamaha switched from points to electronic ignition. This Yammie shows just 2,700 miles and it’s claimed to be in 100% original shape. It recently received a service which included a carb clean, compression check, brake flush, and detail.
