1989 Yamaha YSR50

In Japan, Small Displacement by AbhiLeave a Comment

Post Sale Update: This YSR50 sold for $3,816 after 22 bids on eBay in Vernon-Rockville, Connecticut.

The Yamaha YSR50 was the most common of the rare 50cc sportbikes that came from Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. An instant classic, the YSR50 was always street legal, but now I only seem to see them on display in collections or as pit bikes. Here’s a clean example that’s ready to ride, and it’s got a couple of scratches so you shouldn’t be afraid to!

The 49.3cc two-stroke engine was capable of pushing the bike up to 38 miles per hour, but companies like Team Calamari have been making stock performance numbers useless with years of aftermarket parts and performance modifications.

This example (VIN: JYA2RRA02KA037240) recently got rebuilt front brakes, a carb clean, oil change, new air filter, and a new spark plug. It also get a “full rotisserie detail” with a steam cleaning and waxed bodywork. It appears to be missing the front turn signals, but this seems to be a nice example in a less common colorway than the usual red/white that emulates Yamaha’s bigger sportbikes of the time.
